What is worth pointing out, and what this site cannot help with. Corrections matter most: a ferry schedule changes, a Parkway section reopens, a museum closes for renovation, a trail is rebuilt after the storm.

What is worth pointing out

Corrections, above everything. A ferry changes its season, a Parkway section closes or reopens, a museum shuts for renovation, a mountain road is rebuilt after Helene. If you have just been and something here did not match, that is worth more than any amount of description.

Especially useful: anything about arriving and moving around, such as the mountain interstates, the Blue Ridge Parkway's closed and reopened sections, NC 12 on the Outer Banks, and the ferries to Ocracoke and across Pamlico Sound, which are the parts of a trip that change most often.

What this is not for

It is not a booking service. This site does not sell, book or reserve anything, and cannot get you a room, a campsite, a ferry place, a car or a ticket; those come from the operators themselves and their official booking systems.

It cannot tell you what something costs or when it opens: no price or opening time appears anywhere on this site, because the operator is the only source that is right on the day. For emergencies anywhere in the state, call 911, and for road conditions use the state's own travel information.

The towns

If a page describes a place, a street or a piece of a town's history in a way that is wrong or unfair, that matters here too, and it will be corrected. This guide does not label any town or neighborhood as good or bad, because such labels are rarely accurate and never useful.

Photographs are replaced when a better or more recent one of the same place turns up, and captions are corrected when they describe the frame wrongly.
